Our Mission

The Healing Chapters Foundation is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) that:

  • Provides books to children facing physical or mental illness.
  • Partners with service organizations to deliver thoughtfully selected, age-appropriate books.
  • Promotes reading as a source of encouragement, imagination, and connection when children need it most.

    Our Library

    Our library features carefully selected titles from mostly independent authors. By choosing these books, we provide children with unique and meaningful reading experiences while also supporting the creativity of emerging writers. If you have suggestions for books we should consider, we would love to hear from you.

    About Us

    Mark Even

    Founder / President

    Mr. Even retired from IBM after nearly 40 years in 2017. In the Fall of 2018, his first children’s novel, The Wonders of the Peculiar Parasol was published and 3 follow-on novels are in the pipeline. After a book donation to the Rochester, MN Ronald McDonald’s House, he was inspired to form The Healing Chapters Foundation. When not writing or working with the Foundation, he spends time with golf, birdwatching, fishing and his grand-children.

    Joyce Even

    Vice-President

    Ms. Even was a health care executive with 30+ years of in-depth experience in healthcare operations, financial planning, data/systems management as well as content creation and management. As division chair for Mayo Clinic Health Education & Content Services, she was responsible for extending Mayo Clinic’s health and wellness knowledge to both patients and consumers. She enjoys time in northern Wisconsin at the family cabin, golfing, and being grandma to 8 terrific grandchildren.

    Dr. Amanda Delsman

    Director

    Dr. Delsman is a licensed clinical psychologist at Park Nicollet in St. Paul MN, specializing in treating patients with eating disorders. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin Madison and a Doctorate of Psychology in clinical psychology from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University. Dr. Delsman is a lifelong, voracious reader of books of all genres, and credits reading with her capacity to understand emotion and empathize with people of any background. She enjoys passing her love for reading on to her two children.
